Our faculty and graduate students form one of the nation's most renowned and esteemed physics education research teams. Over the years, we've pioneered advancements in assessment tools like TUG-K and BEMA, developed influential curricula such as Matter and Interactions, and created the innovative SCALE-UP studio classroom model. Our team has also played key roles in developing educational technologies including WebAssign and visualization tools like VPython and VideoGraph. Notably, the prestigious APS journal Physical Review: Physics Education Research was founded here. The Physics Department provides exceptional graduate programs designed to equip students for successful careers in academia and professional physics. Our Ph.D. program fosters a stimulating intellectual environment with a strong research focus that pushes physics boundaries. We offer two M.S. programs (thesis and non-thesis options) to prepare students for doctoral studies or professional pathways. At North Carolina State University's Physics Department, we strive to conduct groundbreaking research in both fundamental and applied physics. Our approach combines theoretical and experimental work with practical applications, merging cutting-edge research with innovative teaching methods to cultivate a dynamic, collaborative, and inclusive academic community.
