Our program provides a Ph.D. in both experimental and theoretical condensed matter physics as well as biophysics, focusing on hands-on learning - students start research during their initial semester. This approach, paired with our small cohort size and access to specialized equipment uncommon for universities of our scale, fosters self-reliance within a nurturing, team-oriented setting.
The physics Ph.D. program looks for self-motivated candidates ready to dedicate themselves and work alongside our distinguished faculty, postdoctoral researchers, visiting academics, and undergraduate students.
With its small-scale structure at a compact urban research institution, the program enables cross-disciplinary collaboration with partners in biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, chemistry, and mathematics and computer science. This creates a strong communal bond and collective mission among our varied student body, both within and beyond our laboratories and research teams.
