The German-speaking region has produced legendary figures like Mozart and Bach, philosophers such as Nietzsche and Heidegger, artists including Klimt and Klee, and scientific minds like Einstein and Bohr. Modern Germany boasts Europe's most robust economy, hosts a rapidly expanding contemporary art movement (particularly in Berlin), and leads global research in areas spanning clean energy to nanoscience. Students can pursue either a German major (36 credits) or minor (18 credits), with curriculum encompassing language instruction at all proficiency levels alongside German cinema, cultural studies, and literature courses taught in both German and English. The German Club organizes cultural activities, including the Spring 2016 German Film Festival and various excursions. Additionally, the Montclair-Graz exchange program enables study abroad experiences in Austria.
