A thriving democracy relies on journalists who can navigate through information overload to uncover truths the public needs. These professionals are educated to investigate thoroughly, uphold ethical standards, and craft engaging narratives. While news platforms evolve across print and digital formats, journalism's core elements—research, observation, writing, and editing—remain constant, whether creating multimedia presentations or front-page stories. UNH's journalism curriculum equips students with questioning techniques that yield meaningful responses, the ability to clarify complex issues, and digital proficiency for modern newsrooms. Above all, the program cultivates exceptional storytelling abilities.
Nationally recognized, UNH's journalism program produces skilled writers and editors. Students begin hands-on reporting from their introductory course, later mastering skills like social media storytelling, videography, photography, copy editing, and headline writing. Multiple internship opportunities with media organizations are available. The program offers international study options in London, while the Donald Murray Visiting Journalist Program hosts industry professionals for week-long campus engagements featuring lectures, workshops, and collaboration with student media.
Each student must have their official high school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
