This option is designed to equip students for biomedical careers. It meets the science coursework prerequisites for most medical, dental, osteopathic, and chiropractic programs, as well as biomedical graduate studies. Prospective applicants should consult individual medical schools for their specific admission requirements.
The Biological Sciences Department provides educational pathways for careers in teaching, research (both laboratory and field-based), biotechnology, environmental sciences, medical laboratory sciences, cytotechnology, food science technology, and pre-professional programs like pre-medicine, pre-dental, and pre-veterinary studies. The biology major features a foundational curriculum to establish core biological knowledge, supplemented by advanced courses for specialization. Students can pursue either a comprehensive general biology track or focus on specific areas including: general biology, cytotechnology, ecology, biomedical sciences, microbiology, plant science, toxicology, or zoology. Additional programs are available in biotechnology, environmental sciences, food science technology, medical laboratory science, and life science education.
