Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) assist individuals across all age groups in acquiring or recovering skills for speaking, reading, writing, clear thinking, and proper swallowing.
Maryville University provides both online and in-person pathways to complete their master's program in Speech-Language Pathology. Maryville graduates will qualify for ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) certification, CCC-SLP credentials (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology), and state licensure in Missouri or elsewhere (both requiring a Clinical Fellowship Year after earning the master's degree).
SLPs work with diverse clients including autistic children, stroke or brain injury survivors, individuals who stutter, those with speech sound difficulties, and people experiencing language delays or disorders. They also deliver comprehensive education to patients and families. Typical workplaces span hospitals, rehab facilities, clinics, schools, and childcare centers.
