MICA's Master of Arts in Teaching program has earned national acclaim for effectively training art educators who combine their creative practice with the expertise to guide others in artistic development. The program provides practical teaching opportunities alongside studies in methodology, contemporary theory, and research—all within a collaborative environment of students and faculty who are globally respected experts in art education.

Renowned for its innovative approach to developing art educators, MICA's MAT program emphasizes that teaching itself is an artistic practice, and that exceptional art instructors maintain active, professional artistic careers.

This four-semester, 53-credit graduate program combines coursework, teaching internships, studio practice, and includes six state-required credits in reading instruction. As a Maryland State Approved Program, it qualifies graduates for PreK-12 art teacher certification. Participants must complete national Praxis examinations with Maryland-established passing scores to fulfill degree requirements.
