The Superintendent Professional Certification Preparation Program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi focuses on equipping future district-level leaders with essential 21st-century competencies. Tailored for employed professionals, our semi-cohort approach enables participants to manage coursework, practical training, and job commitments simultaneously. According to Texas Education Agency guidelines, candidates must meet four key criteria to earn their Superintendent certification:
Possess a master's degree from an institution accredited by either the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board or the U.S. Department of Education's accredited institutions database.
Hold a Principal certification (or equivalent) from TEA, another state, or country; alternatively, applicants may submit a superintendent certification application with TEA approval to substitute relevant managerial experience for the principal certification requirement.
Complete an authorized superintendent preparation program.
Pass the mandatory certification examination.
