The B.F.A./M.A.T. program prepares students to evolve from practicing artists into educator-artists, equipping them to create impactful art experiences for others. This five-year combined degree facilitates the shift from artist to teaching artist, enabling graduates to foster meaningful artistic engagement.

Approved by Maryland for preK-12 art teacher certification, the program requires students to pass state-mandated Praxis exams. Maryland's passing scores must be achieved to graduate. Consult the MD Department of Education's edTPA guidelines for details. Those planning to teach elsewhere should verify additional state requirements. Alongside studio practice, art education, art theory, and internships, the curriculum includes six credits focused on reading instruction.
