The Bachelor of Fine Arts program specializing in art education equips students with innovative teaching methodologies, hands-on experience instructing diverse age groups, comprehensive knowledge of art history and world cultures, and practical skills across multiple studio disciplines. Participants explore K-12 art education in various environments including public schools, community programs, and museums, examining the field through lenses such as creative problem-solving, environmental awareness, inquiry-driven education, cross-disciplinary curriculum design, multicultural frameworks, and artistic studio practices. Alongside their art education studies, students complete coursework in different studio disciplines within the School of Art. Faculty mentor students to cultivate self-motivation, comprehend sophisticated visual communication concepts, and establish their personal identity and global perspective. Professors highlight critical thinking in instruction while promoting scholarly investigation, cross-departmental collaboration, and university-wide academic exploration.
The School of Art's exhibition spaces, including its galleries, Ceramics Research Center and Archive, and ASU Art Museum, host an active calendar of public shows and visiting artist presentations. These programs enable students to expand their understanding of modern artistic movements while establishing valuable professional connections. The curriculum is further enriched by internship opportunities with various arts institutions and cultural organizations.
