Serving the wider University population, it provides foundational music courses for General Education, ensemble performance experiences, private instruction, introductory classes in piano, voice, and guitar, along with Music minor options. The Bachelor of Music program equips students for professional music careers, with graduates gaining these core competencies: 1) proficient score reading and performance error detection, 2) analytical skills to recognize fundamental musical components in scores and performances, 3) ability to deliver stylistically accurate interpretations of standard repertoire. Admission and graduation standards align with National Association of Schools of Music guidelines and Tennessee teacher certification requirements. Undergraduate students can pursue two degree paths: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music or Bachelor of Music (B.M.) with five specialized tracks: instrumental performance, vocal performance, composition, instrumental music education, and vocal music education.
