The 5-year combined program's core objective is to train future art educators for both public and private institutions, equipping them with artistic expertise, in-depth theoretical and practical understanding of art education, and awareness of education's broader cultural and societal impacts. This specialized track delivers thorough, discipline-focused learning with a strong emphasis on art education for social justice. Current FSU BA or BFA students qualify for enrollment. Graduates earn both a BA/BFA in Fine Arts and an MS in Art Education, along with certification eligibility.
Our Art Education Department prioritizes genuine, community-oriented teacher training, highlighting studio practice, critical analysis of art and visual culture, relevant technologies, and creative expression. The five-year direct-entry program specifically develops certified art educators for schools and community settings, requiring substantial classroom observation and involvement. The College supports visual arts, design, theater, and dance locally, aiming to deliver comprehensive liberal arts education while preparing students as performers, creators, educators, and arts professionals. It enhances personal growth and fosters self-expression in our technology-driven world that increasingly relies on visual communication. Arts education is considered essential—both as a learning methodology and for individual enrichment. The College, along with Florida State University, implements initiatives to maintain vibrant intellectual exploration across campus.
