The Music Education specialization (choral or instrumental) combines a comprehensive foundation in liberal arts, music studies, and professional education coursework, culminating in P-12 teaching certification (Class B Professional Teacher's Certificate) for either choral or instrumental instruction. The Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Music Education focus merges musical training with pedagogical studies to cultivate exceptional educators qualified to teach all grade levels (P-12) with certification in their chosen specialization. Throughout their academic journey, students must consistently showcase proficiency in both musical performance and instructional methods.
The Music Department's program structure aims to equip students with an understanding of musical traditions and significant compositions throughout history. Foundational training in music theory and practical skills enables students to engage with music analytically. Performance opportunities foster technical mastery and artistic expression. Rooted in liberal arts principles, all departmental programs emphasize that a well-rounded education serves as ideal preparation for both accomplished musicians and culturally literate individuals.
