The Children & Youth Services Specialization is open to current MSW program students. Working with children and youth represents one of social work's largest practice areas. As a particularly vulnerable group, children's welfare and protection rank among society's top priorities. Social workers serve as primary providers in child welfare and mental health systems while playing significant roles in caring for children across educational, healthcare, shelter, and family service environments.
Higher education institutions must offer focused training for child and youth services. Today's urgent challenges - including abuse, neglect, bullying, trauma, and poverty's enduring effects - represent specific risks young people encounter in our fast-evolving, complex society.
This specialization equips students with competencies to address vulnerable children's needs through direct practice, advocacy, and policy development.
