A WGSS curriculum embodies the finest qualities of liberal arts education: fostering critical analysis, sharpening reasoning abilities, and providing exceptional chances to refine precise writing techniques. Moreover, the WGSS program presents students with rich, far-reaching avenues to examine how gender and sexuality intersect with race, class, and power structures, influencing both societal frameworks and individual experiences. Fundamentally, WGSS employs an intersectional approach, emphasizing the importance of diversity and cultural differences. In today's intricate global landscape, understanding human variation—especially regarding gender and sexuality—equips students with career advantages, deep intellectual growth, and recognition that personal and collective identities are interwoven in numerous ways. The WGSS major consists of 38-40 credit hours, structured to pair effectively with other CAS disciplines, enabling students to pursue dual degrees. While the WGSS major can be completed independently, many students value it as a powerful complement to another field. The program features core courses, specialization tracks (social sciences or humanities), electives, and a capstone project. Students are also urged to explore independent study options to deepen their expertise in specific areas of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
