The Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Studies equips students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills to become professional peacebuilders, capable of fostering positive change and advancing social justice in local communities, nationwide, or on a global scale.
Students learn at Kent State's School of Peace and Conflict Studies, a living tribute to the four students tragically killed on May 4, 1970, and one of the most respected institutions in the field. They collaborate with renowned faculty and international peers, all committed to cultivating peace in communities, societies, and nations during an era marked by growing discord and hostility.
The curriculum explores the roots and impacts of violence, teaches conflict prevention and resolution strategies, and critically assesses peacebuilding frameworks. Students engage with scholarly and policy materials while gaining deep expertise in the discipline. Most importantly, they participate in an interdisciplinary program emphasizing practical experience, skill development (including mediation, conflict assessment, and project coordination), leadership training, and career preparation for roles as peace practitioners or researchers.
Through a collaboration with Rwanda's Center for Conflict Management, students can enroll in an African study abroad program to explore post-genocide recovery efforts and current environmental initiatives in the region.
