The Genetic Counseling Training Program, a collaboration between Johns Hopkins and the National Institutes of Health, involves the Department of Health, Behavior and Society along with NIH's National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and National Cancer Institute (NCI). This ScM program trains future genetic counselors, focusing on addressing clients' psychological and educational requirements. Students gain expertise in social and behavioral research related to genetic counseling while developing skills to inform healthcare professionals, policymakers, and communities about genetic health matters. Coursework covers human genetics, counseling techniques, health education, communication strategies, ethics, public policy, and research methods. Additionally, students complete over 600 hours of supervised clinical training across 25+ locations and produce a publishable thesis project.
