Philosophy explores profound inquiries like: What is knowable? What constitutes a good life? And how do humanity's accumulated discoveries interconnect? It serves as exceptional groundwork for careers in law and medicine while offering valuable insights into fields like psychology, mathematics, literature, and political science. The discipline focuses on essential questions that intellectually curious individuals inevitably confront. At Hopkins, students can approach philosophy through multiple pathways. The analytical and communication abilities gained prove invaluable for professional education and enhance understanding across various academic domains. Students may opt to combine philosophy with another discipline, either through a double major or specialized courses that apply philosophical reasoning to their primary field.
The department currently provides an accelerated BA/MA option. While maintaining standard BA and MA requirements, this combined program allows two 400-level BA courses to count toward the MA degree, reducing the MA coursework from ten to eight additional classes compared to the traditional standalone MA program.
