Philosophy undergraduates can choose to enroll in a five-year combined B.A./M.A. program. As applications are typically submitted during junior year, students should meet with either the M.A. Coordinator or Graduate Program Director in their junior fall semester.
Accepted B.A./M.A. students will complete the standard philosophy major requirements with two key differences. First, they must take two graduate-level courses during junior and senior years that apply toward both degrees. Second, they need to complete two additional graduate courses during senior year that exceed the 120-credit B.A. requirement and apply solely to the M.A. These four courses must be documented on the Accelerated Degree Program Form by the end of senior year.
This course structure enables students to maintain a standard graduate workload (three courses per semester) in their fifth year. The M.A. can be earned by completing ten graduate courses total - two shared with the B.A. and eight exclusive to the M.A. Additional degree requirements include submitting a qualifying paper and meeting the foreign language requirement (detailed in the Graduate Studies Handbook).
