The Master of Arts in Applied Anthropology equips students to apply anthropological principles and methodologies to address practical challenges in the real world.
This program combines foundational coursework with guided research initiatives and hands-on internships involving community partners. Leveraging our department's established expertise, the curriculum covers diverse areas including public archaeology, urban anthropology, global development, medical anthropology, and museum studies.
While students can specialize in specific disciplinary areas, all participants receive comprehensive training across various anthropological perspectives. Anthropology examines humankind through biological, cultural, archaeological, linguistic, and social science lenses. This expansive field explores numerous subjects within four primary branches: Biological Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology, and Linguistic Anthropology. Our Anthropology Department within the School of Liberal Arts engages in research spanning human osteology, historical archaeology, urban studies, social movements, cultural gender studies, ethnic relations, migration patterns, and diasporic communities.
As a graduate student, you'll actively employ anthropological frameworks and techniques to tackle contemporary issues. Your academic journey will blend core instruction with faculty-mentored research collaborations and practical engagements with community organizations.
