The Department has recently updated its Anthropology Master of Arts curriculum, incorporating specialized coursework and thesis guidance for students focusing on sociocultural anthropology. Our faculty boasts particular strength in psychological anthropology, with three dedicated specialists in this subfield. Additionally, linguistic anthropology, educational anthropology, medical anthropology, and the anthropology of religion are prominent research areas among our core faculty. Faculty expertise spans multiple ethnographic regions including East Asia (China, Korea, Japan), Southeast Asia (including Hmong diaspora communities), South Asia (India), the United States, Europe (UK and France), and Africa (Namibia). Master's candidates in our sociocultural program will conduct original ethnographic research under faculty supervision at field schools in these locations. Graduate students will also gain valuable experience by guiding undergraduate researchers through their own ethnographic fieldwork. With its emphasis on research and teaching excellence, this program provides ideal preparation for students planning to pursue doctoral studies after earning their master's degree.
