The sequential M.A./Ph.D. program in anthropology caters to students aiming to conduct advanced doctoral research in Historical Archaeology or Historical Anthropology without having earned a master's degree in the field.
This program's curriculum focuses on developing comprehensive expertise and professional competencies essential to the discipline. Our methodology aims to prepare graduates thoroughly for academic teaching roles and comparable professional opportunities.
For the M.A. degree, candidates must fulfill 30 credit hours of coursework along with a Paper and Presentation component. This involves producing a scholarly article-length paper presented to the Anthropology Department, which satisfies the M.A. thesis requirement.
Ph.D. candidates must complete an additional 36 credit hours of coursework and produce a dissertation. Prior to dissertation work, students must develop and defend a grant proposal for their research project before departmental faculty, targeting specific funding organizations.
Participants in this sequential program are eligible for graduate assistantships, with funding dependent on maintaining satisfactory academic progress as evaluated by the department's Graduate Committee.
