Our program starts with intensive Ph.D.-level foundational courses in economic principles and econometric methods, with a strong focus on microeconomic theory and microeconometric analysis. Students can pursue a specialized two-course track in health economics alongside a class examining the institutional frameworks of healthcare systems and health insurance.
A key component involves completing Ph.D. minor requirements in complementary disciplines like biostatistics, epidemiology, medical ethics, or health policy, equipping students with the interdisciplinary knowledge needed for collaborative work in health economics research.
Beyond theoretical econometrics, our curriculum includes a comprehensive yearlong applied econometrics series that develops practical skills in statistical software, managing complex datasets, addressing real-world econometric challenges, and crafting research proposals.
The program combines rigorous instruction in microeconomic theory, econometric methods, and health economics with valuable cross-disciplinary perspectives relevant to health systems and medical care.
Graduate School requirements include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a scale of 4, and a minimum 3.0 average in the major field.
