Indiana University School of Dentistry offers the state's sole Ph.D. program in Dental Sciences. This unique program features specialized tracks in dental biomaterials, oral biology, and preventive dentistry, emphasizing both fundamental and clinical sciences as they connect to human biology and the impact of dental materials on cariology, molecular biology, etiology, and disease development.
Ph.D. candidates collaborate with pioneering researchers investigating diverse fields including cariology, periodontology, digital imaging, materials science, microbiology, immunology, bone studies, oral-facial genetics, proteolytic enzymes, and cancer biology. Graduates emerge fully equipped for academic and research careers in dental and medical schools, university science departments, research institutions, government organizations, and private industry.

Qualification Requirements
To be eligible to apply to the Ph.D. program, you must:
Hold a doctorate in dentistry (D.D.S. or D.M.D) or a Bachelor of Science degree
Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (dental school GPA for applicants with D.D.S. or D.M.D. degrees, undergraduate GPA for applicants with B.S. degrees)
Have a minimum GRE score of 160 on the verbal section or 148 on the quantitative reasoning section
Have a minimum GRE score of 3.0 on the analytical writing section
TOEFL iBT of 79-99 or IELTS of 6.5-7.0 will take the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) placement test. Admitted students with Duolingo scores (min. accepted score - 110) will also be required to take the EAP placement test.
