The Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) is a professional qualification granted by the College of Dentistry. To be eligible, applicants must complete 90 semester hours of undergraduate coursework, including mandatory classes, at an accredited institution - refer to the Admission section in this catalog for details.

University of Iowa students pursuing a bachelor's degree in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences prior to dentistry school admission might finish their undergraduate studies during their initial year in the dental program

Qualification Requirements

Applicants should have a cumulative g.p.a. higher than 2.50 on a 4.00 scale, a g.p.a. above 3.50 is preferred. The admissions committee gives special consideration to the quality of applicants' coursework in the predental sciences, in addition to the cumulative grade-point average.

Dental Admissions Test (DAT) is required for admissions. DAT scores are only accepted within a 3 year time period of applying.
