The Master of Science program is designed for individuals holding a science degree who show promise in research and professional development. Full admission as a classified (degree-seeking) student requires endorsement from the Geosciences Department's graduate faculty.
Each candidate's curriculum will be tailored through advisor consultations and potentially an initial assessment. Typically, participants must address any undergraduate course gaps equivalent to ISU's Geology B.S. requirements. Program continuation depends on sustaining a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrating consistent academic progress.
Unclassified enrollment accommodates applicants with significant course deficiencies or subpar undergraduate performance. These students may petition for classified standing upon demonstrating improved academic achievement.
