The M.A. in Sociology program aims to equip students for professional paths in sociological practice, research, and education. Our curriculum emphasizes foundational training in social research methods and theoretical frameworks, while offering specialized development in applied data analysis, reporting, and policy formulation. Alumni secure roles across corporate and nonprofit fields, including marketing analytics, educational institutions, healthcare systems, justice administration, and environmental advocacy. Many continue their academic journey through doctoral programs in sociology and related social sciences, or pursue advanced degrees in law and medicine. Participants will achieve expertise in at least one specialized sociology domain. The program ensures comprehension of sociological theories and cultivates advanced research capabilities, covering study design, information gathering, analytical techniques, and data interpretation.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must apply to and meet all of the admissions criteria for the Graduate School. In addition, applicants must meet the following department requirements:

Have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4-point scale) for the last 60 credits taken as an undergraduate, or permission of the M.A. in Sociology Program Director.
Provide a statement of purpose.
Provide three letters of recommendation.
Provide a writing sample.
For full admission to the M.A. in Sociology Program, applicants must have completed the following standard undergraduate sociology courses or their equivalent:

Introduction to Sociology
Social Theory
Social Statistics
Social Science Research Methods

Toefl Internet-based test (iBT): a total score of 80 with a score of at least 20 on each Section, Computer-based test: a total score of 213 with a score of at least 21 on Section 1 (Listening Comprehension) on the computer test, Toefl Paper-based test: a total score of 550 with a score of at least 55 on Section l (Listening Comprehension) on the paper test. Satisfactory IELTS performance for Classified admission includes scoring 6.5 or higher on the total band score. Photocopies of TOEFL and/or IELTS scores will not be accepted.
