Hemispheric and Transnational Studies examines cultural and historical comparisons across the Americas, investigating how research on the Atlantic world, border regions, and diasporic communities has transformed the fields of American, Caribbean, and Latin American Studies, with particular focus on imperialism, racial dynamics, and revolutionary movements. A key scholarly objective is understanding how the academic shift toward transnational perspectives creates fresh research priorities. Learners investigate how studies of transatlantic connections, borderlands, and migration patterns have redefined U.S. American, Caribbean, and Latin American scholarship. Concentration requirements vary based on the student's home department or program.
This interdisciplinary concentration is offered to graduate students in Applied Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, English, History, and Religion programs. The specialization is granted alongside MA or PhD degrees and appears on official transcripts as supplementary academic recognition.
