A child and adolescent development degree provides exceptional preparation for professions focused on children and families. If you currently hold entry-level qualifications and work with young people, this program can help elevate your professional trajectory. Diverse specialists—including childcare directors, family counselors, youth advocates, pediatric healthcare providers, and parent educators—have enhanced their skills and advanced their careers through our undergraduate and graduate programs. The ChAD program blends theoretical foundations with practical applications, research insights, and policy studies to give students a holistic perspective on youth development. Learners gain real-world experience through community partnerships and our on-campus preschool lab. Graduates emerge as knowledgeable, ethical professionals who appreciate both the universal aspects and rich diversity of human development across cultures.
U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, or the completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited, and approved institution from a country outside of the U.S. A 2.5 GPA (from the 0.0-4.0 U.S. grading scale) in the last degree completed or a 2.5 GPA in the last two years of full-time study.
In addition to meeting university requirements, the minimum requirement for admission to the ChAD MA program is 1) a baccalaureate degree awarded by an accredited institution, 2) a completed department application, 3) three letters of recommendation, 4) a 1-2-page typed statement of educational and professional background and professional goals, and 5) an essay on various topic areas in child and adolescent development. In addition, students have the option of submitting GRE scores which will be evaluated within the context of all the applicant's materials.
