The Ecology and Conservation Biology (ECB) specialization is designed for students passionate about exploring ecological principles and their real-world applications, particularly through hands-on fieldwork. This ECB track equips students for advanced studies in ecology or its practical applications, along with careers in natural resource management (such as with the Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, or Idaho Department of Fish and Game), environmental agencies (including the Environmental Protection Agency, US Geological Survey, or Department of Environmental Quality), and conservation groups (like The Nature Conservancy, US Fish and Wildlife Service, or World Wildlife Fund). Students can customize their studies by choosing from diverse courses covering plant and animal biodiversity, field research, and evolutionary processes.
Beyond the foundational coursework, ECB students can tailor their education by selecting from an extensive array of ecology, biodiversity, and evolutionary biology classes. The program mandates a balanced curriculum, requiring at least 6 credits each in plant-focused and animal-focused coursework to ensure comprehensive taxonomic understanding.
