The Bachelor of Arts in Music program provides a comprehensive music education with supplementary coursework in arts and humanities disciplines. The Music Department features diverse degree options including Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music Education, and Master of Education in Music Education. Music majors engage in curriculum designed to cultivate cultural awareness while preparing for professional paths such as music instruction, performance, audio engineering, advanced studies, and various music industry roles. All university students can participate in musical ensembles, ranging from Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band and Marching Band/Basketball Band to the Idaho State-Civic Symphony, Chamber Orchestra, vocal groups, Opera Workshop, jazz ensembles, and specialized chamber groups for various instruments. The department, housed in the renowned L. E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center, offers exceptional performance venues and collaborative opportunities with accomplished faculty and visiting artists at this nationally recognized facility.

Qualification Requirements

Freshman applicants must submit official secondary school mark sheets and diploma. Mailed documents must be originals or copies certified by the school principal or controller of examinations and sealed in a school envelope. Documents not in English must be translated by a certified translator. Official transcripts are also accepted by email if sent directly from the school principal or registrar. Students who do not meet minimum English proficiency requirements may apply for conditional admission, during which time they will need to be enrolled in an intensive English program, such as ISU's IEI program, in preparation for full-time academic study at ISU. Have graduated from a high school or secondary school with satisfactory grades, received a diploma or certificate of graduation, and be eligible for admission to a major university in the country from which they graduated. An overall accumulative grade point average of 2.0 for all University courses is required for graduation. The Music Department requires a Music GPA of 2.5 as a standard for graduation.
