Our students drive innovations in clinical science to improve psychological wellness, prioritizing underserved communities.
Howard University's APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program trains students to address health disparities through clinical practice and research. Choose between adult or child clinical specializations. First-year students gain hands-on experience with clinical interviews and cognitive testing in school environments. Second-year students develop psychotherapy skills through practicum placements. Advanced externships in years three and four enhance competencies in psychophysiological assessment and evidence-based interventions. The program leverages partnerships with premier institutions like the VA Medical Center, NIH, and National Children's Medical Center, offering exposure to diverse therapeutic approaches. Our global research initiatives span Africa and Asia. As a doctoral candidate, you'll join Howard's vibrant research community, collaborating with faculty across specialties including neuropsychology, trauma studies, health disparities, and cross-cultural psychology. Students regularly present findings at prominent D.C. conferences, and all graduates secure APA-accredited internships.
