Earning a Ph.D. in human factors involves completing 84 credit hours, including foundational psychology courses, specialized human factors classes, electives, and a dissertation. With more than 30 elective credits available, you can tailor your academic path to match your professional aspirations.
As part of USD's human factors program, you'll engage in applied psychological research while working as human factors and ergonomics consultants for diverse organizations. These include the U.S. military, the Federal Aviation Administration, tech startups, major corporations like Oracle and Microsoft, and academic institutions such as Michigan State University and George Mason University.
You'll collaborate on research projects with distinguished faculty who are recognized authorities in their disciplines. Ongoing research initiatives cover areas like aging drivers, educational technology interfaces, risk assessment and decision processes, gaming motivation, traffic safety, and cognitive workload measurement.
Students with Baccalaureate degree must be from an institution with full regional accreditation for that degree. A minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 on conferred degree and/or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, based on a 4.0 scale, on all graduate coursework is required for full admission.
English Language Requirements:
A minimum score of 79 on the Internet-Based TOEFL (iBT) or 550 on the Paper-Based TOEFL (PBT), a minimum IELTS score of 6.0, or a minimum PTE score of 53 is required for graduate admission.
