Qualification Requirements
Applications are for Ph.D. and certificate programs only. UConn does not offer a terminal master's degree in psychological sciences.
The Ph.D. in psychological sciences is a full-time program offered on the UConn Storrs campus.
Applicants are not required to have an undergraduate degree in psychology, however, basic undergraduate-level courses in statistics, general psychology, and experimental psychology are recommended.
The GRE is no longer required, and GRE scores will not be considered for applications.
Receiving minimum overall scores of 79 (Internet-based test – iBT/ iBT Home Edition), 550 (Old Paper-based test – PBT) or 22/30 on each of the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections (''New'' Paper-based test- PBT) or higher on the TOEFL (TOEFL Essentials is not accepted.)
Receiving a minimum overall score of 6.5 or higher on the IELTS Academic test. (IELTS General Training and IELTS Indicator are not accepted.)
Receiving a minimum overall score of 53 or higher on the PTE test.
Applicants are required to provide three letters of recommendation, preferably from your instructors in psychology.
Please provide a personal statement (2-4 double spaced pages) that addresses the following points:
1. Describe how your interest in psychology developed. Include the influence of personal, professional and/or volunteer experiences on your interest.
2. What program are you applying for and why? Why at UCONN? What do you consider to be your personal strengths and limitations in relation to this program? What do you think you will add to the program and to the lab of your preferred advisor(s)?
3. Please describe your research experience, computer experience, and formal (e.g., statistical and/or other mathematical) training.
You do not need to provide three separate answers if the relevant information is incorporated into a longer personal statement. We are providing these suggested points to ensure that all applicants have the same information about how personal essays are reviewed.
