This is an extraordinary era for psychology. Nearly every day, media outlets share groundbreaking discoveries about the biological, emotional, cognitive, and social foundations of both typical and atypical behavior. Yale University's Psychology Department faculty leads the way in research and academic excellence across this vast and dynamic discipline. The core mission of Yale's psychology graduate program is to cultivate researchers—whether for academic or practical environments—who will expand and strengthen the scientific foundations of psychology. Each year, the Psychology Department admits approximately 15 new Ph.D. candidates. Applicants specify one of five specialization areas when applying, typically joining a specific laboratory, though opportunities exist to work with faculty and peers across different labs and engage in interdisciplinary initiatives (such as cognitive, affective, and social neuroscience or health sciences).
Applicants must have completed your undergraduate degree (bachelor's or equivalent) or will have completed it prior to your intended matriculation date at Yale.
