The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), an accrediting agency acknowledged by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), has awarded accreditation to Hofstra University's Rehabilitation Counseling in Mental Health (MS) program. This Master of Science program equips students to pursue both the New York state mental health practitioner licensure exam and the national Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) certification. The curriculum trains future counselors with the expertise, abilities, and perspectives required to help individuals with disabilities attain personal, social, psychological, and vocational autonomy, including suitable employment and independent living arrangements. Specialized coursework prepares students for careers in mental health and other focused environments. Alumni find employment across diverse rehabilitation contexts such as state-federal agencies, mental health facilities, hospitals, private rehabilitation firms, VA clinics, addiction treatment centers, educational institutions, independent living initiatives, insurance providers, private practices, and organizations supporting those with mental, emotional, social, and physical challenges. Applicants holding bachelor's degrees can finish the extensive program within two to three academic years, with potential acceleration through transferring up to 12 approved graduate credits.
