The CEP department provides a Clinical Mental Health Counseling program resulting in a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree. This CACREP-accredited program trains future counselors for careers in mental health agencies, hospitals, and private practices. Graduates meet the educational requirements for licensure as clinical mental health counselors through New Mexico's Counseling and Therapy Practice Board.

Qualification Requirements

A student seeking admission to graduate school at NMSU must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree from a regionally accredited institution. The academic program of the completed degree should be equivalent to a comparable NMSU degree's requirements.
Students must send official transcripts from their prior colleges or universities directly to the Graduate School.
An international applicant whose grade-point average (or its equivalent) is greater than or equal to 3.0., from a four-year bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
