At the Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES), we provide a focal point for cross-disciplinary exploration of the Middle East and North Africa at Harvard, creating a dynamic environment that invites your engagement. Whether pursuing an AM or PhD degree, you'll gain access to nearly 100 annual events featuring workshops, seminars, and discussions with scholars, policy experts, and media professionals. Our Tunisia Office stands as a unique asset supporting regional research and language acquisition.
The Center's doctoral program allows specialization in one of three combined Middle Eastern studies tracks: history, anthropology, or art and architectural history. Each concentration involves close collaboration with distinguished faculty from our partner departments. You'll also have opportunities to interact with specialists across disciplines while developing proficiency in at least one Middle Eastern research language.
