The French and Francophone Studies Graduate Program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill prepares scholars and educators to examine the literary and cultural works of French-speaking communities worldwide. This comprehensive program provides graduate-level instruction spanning French literature from medieval times to the modern era, encompassing diverse Francophone regions, film studies, and various theoretical approaches to literature, culture, and society. Professors conduct specialized seminars based on their research expertise, covering subjects such as Renaissance poetry, Québecois culture, classical French novels, theatrical arts, 19th-century cultural movements, colonial/postcolonial research, modern critical theory, Francophone Asian studies, Franco-Arabic scholarship, New Wave cinema, and gender/sexuality research. The minimum requirements are a bachelor's degree (based on a four-year curriculum) completed before graduate study begins or its international equivalent with an accredited institution; an average grade of B (cumulative GPA 3.0) or better.
The required minimum total score on the exams are internet-based TOEFL exam = 90, The IELTS exam = 7.
