Graduate students seeking to explore the interdisciplinary examination of Black communities across the United States, Africa, and the global diaspora will collaborate closely with our distinguished faculty. Our professors bring specialized knowledge in both national and international perspectives on race and Black identity, spanning disciplines such as African-American Studies, Anthropology, Art History, History, Interdisciplinary Studies, Social Work, and Public Health. Few academic departments can rival our expertise in:
Academic activism
Diaspora research in Black contemporary and mainstream culture
Pedagogy rooted in cultural relevance
Community development and empowerment
Gender, sexuality, and societal dynamics
While our program maintains a strong focus on Social Justice and Community Engagement within the U.S. context, we actively promote and facilitate the academic exploration and emancipation of Black populations worldwide.
The Africana Studies program provides a fully funded master's degree opportunity, featuring tuition coverage and a reasonable living stipend.
