The English Department provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. We encourage dedicated students to advance their knowledge of English, American, and Anglophone linguistics, literature, and cinema beyond undergraduate studies. Our Ph.D. curriculum primarily prepares academic professionals for teaching and research roles in higher education institutions nationwide. The Master's program serves as foundational preparation for doctoral studies, with the expectation that M.A. candidates will continue to pursue their Ph.D. Consequently, we do not maintain a standalone terminal M.A. program. Students can specialize in Writing Studies for either degree, and Ph.D. candidates focusing on other disciplines may additionally pursue a graduate concentration in Writing Studies.

Qualification Requirements
Applicants must have earned at least a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college in the United States or a comparable degree from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad. A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (A=4.0), or comparable GPA for an international applicant, for last two years of undergraduate study is a minimum requirement for admission. If your undergraduate study is longer than 4 years, additional semesters may be used to calculate the admission GPA. Currently, a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test (213 on the computer-based test) is required.
