The Developmental program area manages the Developmental (DEV) concentration. This compact program provides tailored instruction in the concentration for each student. The curriculum focuses on teaching research methods and scientific principles related to both typical and atypical developmental trajectories from early childhood through teenage years. Students work closely with faculty advisors to create customized study plans.
We aim to equip future PhD-level researchers for academic positions, research institutions, and applied fields while fostering professionals who will push forward developmental psychology's scientific and practical frontiers.
Key research areas encompass normal and impaired communication/language development, along with educational attainment and policy matters. Research labs incorporate both theoretical and practical approaches. Coursework and research initiatives address genetic, neuropsychological, perceptual, cognitive, linguistic, methodological, sociocultural, and policy dimensions. A core emphasis of our research and training involves examining development across varied populations.
