Our program is titled Human Factors/Human Computer Interaction. While this might appear as two separate fields, our curriculum offers comprehensive, cohesive training. The dual name represents the diverse viewpoints and academic traditions within this discipline.
Some scholars view Human Factors as the overarching domain, with HCI being a specialized subset. Human Factors is the scientific study focused on applying knowledge of human capabilities, traits, and constraints to design user equipment, functional environments, and work tasks. (Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, n.d.). Alternative terms for human factors encompass ergonomics, applied experimental psychology, human factors engineering, and engineering psychology. The combined phrase Human Factors/Ergonomics denotes the entire field. Within this framework, specialized areas include transportation systems, medical applications, aerospace, and human-computer interaction. The field integrates knowledge from multiple disciplines such as psychology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, medicine, and nursing.
