GW's nutrition program aims to equip undergraduate students with comprehensive knowledge about the science behind food and nutrition, along with its public health applications. This interdisciplinary field combines chemistry, biology, physiology, psychology, and public health, creating a foundation for incorporating nutrition science across various disciplines. Upon graduation, students gain the expertise to enhance, expand, and implement nutritional principles in clinical and public health settings. Alumni work in diverse environments, including federal agencies like the USDA and FDA, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations, while some continue their education with graduate studies in health sciences, dietetics, or public health.
The program offers a nutrition science concentration for students intending to advance into dietetics and become registered dietitians. Note that starting in 2024, a Master's degree is mandatory for Registered Dietitian certification.
