The nutrition program offers three specialized pathways, all delivering a comprehensive foundation in biological, chemical, and nutritional sciences. During the initial two years, students complete core science courses alongside humanities and social sciences classes that fulfill BU Hub requirements.
The nutrition science pathway equips students for graduate studies in life sciences, medical or professional programs, or careers in biomedical fields, nutrition, or public health.
The nutrition and health pathway caters to students aiming for careers blending nutrition with specialties like public/global health or communications. This curriculum combines foundational science, nutrition, and food courses with focused electives. Those planning to enter physician assistant programs can fulfill prerequisite requirements through this track.
The dietetics pathway emphasizes professional training for careers as Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) across clinical nutrition, management, public health, research, and industry. Graduates complete Boston University's Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), qualifying them for ACEND-accredited supervised practice programs. Beginning January 1, 2024, candidates must complete both a supervised practice program and a master's degree before taking the CDR registration exam to become RDNs.
