The Spanish Program provides Master of Arts (MA) and PhD degrees in Spanish. For the master's degree, students can opt for either a thesis-based track or a course-based track. Both thesis and course-based MA students can select from three specialization areas: Iberian and Latin American Literatures and Cultures, Linguistics, or a combined Linguistics & Literature focus. MA candidates must show comprehension and application of fundamental knowledge in their chosen field. They should also demonstrate familiarity with research methodologies, creative problem-solving, or practical application of knowledge relevant to literary/cultural studies or linguistics.
The doctoral program typically demands at least 30 credit hours beyond the MA. PhD candidates may specialize in either Iberian and Latin American Literatures and Cultures or Hispanic Linguistics.
