The Linguistics PhD specialization stands out due to faculty members' extensive knowledge across multiple domains, such as phonology, syntax, morphology, sociolinguistics (particularly focusing on American English dialects), the intersection of linguistics and literature, and the evolution of the English language. This program enables students to expand their understanding of linguistic analysis through diverse languages like American English, historical forms of English (Old and Middle English), Korean, and Japanese. Given that language and linguistics research spans multiple disciplines, our program benefits from faculty whose expertise originates not only from the English Department but also from various other academic units throughout the university.
