The Department of Art History provides graduate programs including the Master of Arts (MA) in art history and criticism, MA in museum and cultural heritage studies, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in art history and criticism. These programs aim to equip students for professional careers in academic art history or related fields such as museum work, gallery management, and publishing. Four specialized tracks allow students to tailor their studies to specific career objectives. The PhD program focuses on cultivating skilled researchers capable of making original contributions to specific art historical fields, preparing graduates for top-tier academic or museum positions. Candidates must complete all doctoral requirements within five years after passing qualifying exams, per university policy. The department covers four primary areas: Medieval, Renaissance/Baroque, Modern/Contemporary art, and Visual Cultures of the Americas.
