The Department of Art History provides graduate programs including a Master of Arts (MA) in art history and criticism, an MA in museum and cultural heritage studies, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in art history and criticism. These programs aim to equip students for professional roles in academia, museums, archives, galleries, or publishing. Four specialized tracks allow students to tailor their studies to specific career paths. The PhD program fosters advanced research skills for scholars pursuing university teaching or high-level museum positions.
At Florida State University, Medieval Studies represents a vibrant and expanding academic focus. Faculty from Fine Arts, Arts & Sciences, and Communications collaborate to advance interdisciplinary medieval research (400-1500 CE), offering diverse undergraduate and graduate courses while guiding numerous thesis projects. The curriculum encompasses Archaeology, Art and Architectural History (covering Western, Byzantine, and Islamic traditions), Book History, various historical approaches, medieval languages and literatures, Manuscript Studies, and Musicology.

A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution, or a comparable degree from an international institution, with a minimum 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average (GPA) in all coursework attempted while enrolled as an upper-division undergraduate student working towards a bachelor's degree

Three letters of recommendation, preferably by Art History faculty with whom you have studied. You will identify three recommenders in your application, they will then be notified by email that their letters are requested.
Internet based TOEFL (IBTOEFL): 80, Paper based TOEFL (TOEFL): 550, International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.5.
