The Department of Sociology and Anthropology provides two distinct Master of Arts degree options. The general sociology track is designed for students planning to advance to doctoral studies, while the applied sociology focus prepares students for practical social research careers in both private and public sectors. Exceptional undergraduates may qualify for ETSU's Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's Degree Program. Alumni have secured diverse positions including federal probation officers, treatment center directors, research analysts, survey specialists, juvenile facility superintendents, community college professors, and various roles in human services across Tennessee and nearby states. Many graduates have furthered their education by earning PhDs at prestigious institutions like University of Florida, North Carolina State University, Virginia Tech, and others.
